ACD Staff Tipped on New Trends in Corruption

The Judicial Studies Institute concluded a three tier training programme for the staff of the Anti-Corruption Division of High Court on the fight against corruption. The training saw Judicial Officers at the Division trained as well as the support staff.
The training was opened by His Worship Phillip Odoki, the Deputy Registrar in charge of training who urged participants to have an open mind so as to benefit from the training.
Ms. Cissy Kagaba, the Executive Director from the Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda said Corruption in the Judiciary leads to loss of public trust and confidence in the judicial system which is not healthy for any growing democracy for a country like Uganda. She called on all the participants to take it upon themselves to fight corruption. "Fighting corruption in the Judiciary shouldn't entirely be left to the institution but be resident in every one working in the Judiciary."
The call was re-echoed by Peter Mwebesa, the Principal Inspector of Government who said that to eradicate corruption,staff should maintain and observe rule of law and ensure transparency in court processes.
Speaking to non-judicial staff, Her Worship Jane Mugala, the senior Law Reporting Officer at JSI said judicial officers cannot excel unless the non-judicial staff is performing well and that the judicial staff giving the first impression to the public hence the have to show and build an organizational image.
Hon. Justice Lawrence Gidudu, the Head of ACD called for the enactment of new laws to suit the current technology trends.
The trainings which were funded by the Justice Law and order Sector addressed adjudicating cyber-crime cases, new trends in syndicate corruption as well as customer care.
